Women @ Work Breakfasts

#WOMEN@WORK

There are women at work in many amazing ways across Jozi. Women@Work is a place to connect with other women journeying through professional life, learn new ways to engage & grow and reflect on where you are right now.

At the Women @ Work 1 December Breakfast we focused on building resilience skills to surf the wave of constant change: building a strong network, investing in personal equity and being purposeful in how you show up.

Another group of hard at work women in Jozi are the Gogo’s of Hope, and we partnered with Rays of Hope to make donations and learn more about what they do.

In Alexander it is quite normal for Gogo (granny) to have buried her children, and then become a parent again to her grandchildren. The Gogo’s play a vital role in the community caring for these young children, who would otherwise have no one to look after them. The Gogo’s of Hope group provides a place where 45 – 60 grannies come together every week to share their successes and their problems. They are safe places where they can seek and give support and encouragement to one another. they are also taught skills like crocheting, sewing, and beading, which assists them to supplement their income and support their large dependent families.

Rays Of Hope aims to enable individuals and families to improve all aspects of their lives. rays of Hope started operating with one project in 1991 and has grown to a network of seven community based projects, focusing on education, orphaned and vulnerable children, and work readiness.

The feedback from our first breakfast was outstanding:

  • Well presented, humorous, interesting, professional, great energy
  • Interactivity made it easy to meet new people in a fun interesting way
  • Introspection time was very helpful and challenging

We look forward to our next breakfast to be held 20th April 2018

Keep an eye open for further details.
